This Privacy Policy explains what information grimlogs.com (“I,” “me,” or “the site”) collects when you visit grimlogs.com, how that information is used, and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information I collect
I collect only the information necessary to operate the site and improve the reading experience:
- Information you provide. If you submit the contact form or subscribe to updates, I collect the email address and message you provide. Email is optional on the contact form; if omitted, the message is recorded anonymously.
- Automatically collected data. When you visit a page, the analytics and hosting providers I use automatically receive standard log data: IP address, user-agent string, referrer, page URL, and timestamp.
- Newsletter engagement. Emails may contain a small image and signed redirect links that record whether a dispatch was opened and which article links were clicked. These events are stored against an opaque recipient identifier, without storing an email address, IP address, or user-agent string in the engagement record.
- Cookies and local storage. I use a small amount of browser storage to remember your theme preference (light/dark) and to persist anti-abuse tokens for the contact form. Third-party services embedded on the site (see below) may set their own cookies.
2. How I use information
- To deliver the site and serve the pages you request.
- To respond to messages submitted through the contact form.
- To send subscriber emails when, and only when, you explicitly subscribe.
- To measure newsletter engagement and understand which dispatches readers find useful.
- To measure aggregate traffic and improve content (which posts are read, how visitors arrive).
- To detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security incidents.
3. Third-party services
The site embeds the following third-party services. Each operates under its own privacy policy, and data they collect is governed by those policies, not by me:
- Google AdSense — serves advertisements on the site. Google and its partners use cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) and similar identifiers to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites on the Internet. See How Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Analytics — aggregate traffic measurement. Google Privacy Policy.
- Microsoft Clarity — aggregate behavioural analytics (heatmaps, session recordings of UI events, no form values). Microsoft Privacy Statement.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — bot protection on the contact form. Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — web font delivery. Google Privacy Policy.
4. Advertising and cookies
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, Google may restrict ads to non-personalised serving where required by applicable law (GDPR / ePrivacy) until a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP) is in place on this site. You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time via the links above and may clear site cookies in your browser to remove any local identifiers.
5. Children’s privacy
The site is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact me and I will delete it.
6. Data retention
- Contact-form messages are retained for up to 24 months, then deleted unless an active conversation is ongoing.
- Subscriber emails are retained until you unsubscribe; unsubscribing is available from every email I send.
- Newsletter engagement events are retained with the related dispatch analytics and use opaque recipient identifiers.
- Aggregate analytics are retained per the defaults of the providers listed above.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal information I hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, please contact me with the request and I will respond within a reasonable time.
8. Security
I use industry-standard practices — HTTPS in transit, modern hosting infrastructure, and limited access to stored messages — to protect the information collected. No system is perfectly secure; I cannot guarantee absolute security but I do my best.
9. Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
